Persuasive Writing 2020

Being an individual is more important than being popular

It is 2020 and the importance of individuality still isn’t being acknowledged. With this not being acknowledged, our happiness, our qualities, and our purpose are also lacking acknowledgement. Therefore, being an independent individual is more important than being popular. Some reasons for this are that it will prepare you for an independent future; you learn to live up to your own expectation rather than others, and other people's opinions won’t bother you.

Being an independent individual is all a part of growing up from a child to an adult. For example, as a child, we rely on our caregivers to support us financially with housing and food. An adult has to learn to be independent and support themselves. If we are independent enough to buy our groceries, pay our bills or even drive ourselves places, popularity shouldn’t be a problem for us as we can rely on ourselves for our responsibilities.

Not only does being independent help you transition from child to adult, but you also learn to live up to your expectation rather than others. For example, if you live up to other people's expectations, you aren’t focusing on what makes you happy because you are too busy trying to reach the standards of others, whereas if you live up to your expectation, you aren’t being held back by worrying about other people's opinion; you can focus on your goals without feeling like you aren’t enough for anyone. This would make everything easier for us by avoiding thousands of extraneous battles to express who you are without others' inputs.

Besides learning to live up to your expectation rather than others, being an independent individual will also cause a major increase in confidence. For example, when you are under pressure to fit into a popular crowd, you set yourself aside and feel the need to fit in with the “Cool kids”, however, if you build a strong mindset where you worry about what matters to you more than others, you won’t have this problem and will have no reason to worry about how others see you. If we feel comfortable in our own skin, then why should we worry about what others think of us when we know all it will do is make us feel belittled?

Being an independent individual is more important than being popular. It is part of transitioning into an adult; you learn to live up to your expectations and increase our confidence. Popularity being more important than being an individual is very stereotypical and needs to be put to an end.
